Klaus R. Kunzmann (born 1942) studied architecture and urban planning at the Technical University of Munich and received his Ph.D. in Planning at the Technical University of Vienna, Austria in 1971. From 1974 to 2006 he was Professor at the School of Planning, University of Dortmund, Germany.
As a visiting professor he has taught, among others, at Tsinghua University, Beijing, Chung Hua Universirty, Hsinchu, Taiwan, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge/USA, the ETH Zürich, the Université Paris 8, the University of California, Los Angeles, the School of Architecture and Planning at the Graduate School of Fine Arts of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, the University of Rome, Sapienza, and the Technische Universität Berlin.
As a policy advisor at the European, national, regional and local level, he has been involved in many projects on urban and regional deveiopment. He has been involved in numerous European, national and regional research projects. Klaus R. Kunzmann is an editorial board member of a number of international journals on planning and urban development.
His present research interests are the interdependencies of knowledge and spatial (urban, regional, national and European) development, the role of culture and creative industries in spatial development, and the impact of China’s economic growth on cities and regions in Europe..
Klaus R. Kunzmann has published 12 books, mainly in the field of regional restructuring and cultural industries. He has written numerous chapters in edited books published among others in Germany, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the UK, the US and Italy. He frequently publishes in refereed international journals, in German, English and Italian.
